History: A charter member of the famed Pacific Coast League, the San Francisco Seals are one of the most recognizable minor league teams of all time. In 1949, as part of a diplomatic mission requested by the U.S. government, the team went on a historic post-war tour of Japan led by their manager Lefty O’Doul — a man who contributed greatly to the popularity of baseball in Japan, before and after the war. Over half a million fans came out to watch the Seals play, including the Emperor himself, leading General Douglas MacArthur, Supreme Commander of the Allied Powers in Japan, to call it, “the greatest piece of diplomacy ever.”
This is a recreation of the ballcap worn by the San Francisco Seals in 1949, featuring genuine navy wool broadcloth and felt lettering, just like the one they wore on their history-making tour.
