History: Eight days after President Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, the Army-Navy game went ahead as scheduled in Philadelphia — a decision made partly because Kennedy himself had attended the game the year before and loved it. Navy entered with a 8-1 record and Roger Staubach at quarterback, fresh off winning the Heisman Trophy. They won 21-15, secured a Cotton Bowl berth, and finished second in the country. It is still remembered as one of the most emotional afternoons in the history of American sport.
