History: The Miami Gatos had the shortest-lived name in NASL history. The club had begun in 1967 as the Washington Darts, won two ASL championships, and relocated to Miami in 1972 under new ownership and a new name. The Gatos finished fourth in the Southern Division, their coach resigned mid-season, and a 20-man committee voted to rebrand them the Toros before the following year was out. Though the Gatos never found their footing, the Toros sure did — Trinidadian striker Warren Archibald won the 1973 NASL MVP, and the club reached the 1974 championship game before reinventing themselves again in 1976, this time as the Fort Lauderdale Strikers.
