Mystery Caps of Mexico – La Junta de Nuevo Laredo 1940 Wool Ballcap
$97.00 CAD
WOOL BALLCAP HONORING THE 1940 JUNTA DE NUEVO LAREDO
History: A few years ago while researching Mexican baseball history, we found a trove of vintage photos depicting a forgotten era of Mexican baseball — when teams from civic organizations, government, the military, and early professional leagues flourished around Mexico City. Now, we’re bringing that history back with our Mystery Caps of Mexico collection: rare designs never before available through Ebbets or anywhere else.
The Mexican border city’s first stint in professional baseball was from 1940 to 1944. The Nuevo Laredo "Junta" was sponsored by the city’s public works department. Negro Leaguer Willard Brown hit .345 for the season. Brown would go on to become the third Black player in MLB when he signed with the St. Louis Browns in 1947.
Made from genuine wool broadcloth with our signature green satin underbrim, this hat is inspired by the on-field ballcap worn by the 1940 Junta de Nuevo Laredo.
